Irons loses in Tahiti surf meet

Kaua'i's Andy Irons was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Billabong Pro Tahiti yesterday.
The final day of the contest was completed in 4- to 6-foot waves at Teahupoo, Tahiti.
Australia's Joel Parkinson beat Irons, 17.53-12.0.
Florida's Damien Hobgood won the contest, beating Australian Mick Fanning in the one-on-one final.
The event was the third of 10 stops on the 2007 World Championship Tour.
Fanning is currently ranked No. 1. Irons is the top Hawai'i surfer at No. 7. Among other Hawai'i surfers, Bruce Irons is No. 12, Pancho Sullivan is No. 16, and Fred Patacchia Jr. is No. 30.
