Kahuku students proved they know history, winning most of the top honors at the Hawai'i State History Day competition in April.
Kahuku Elementary and Kahuku High & Intermediate school students took home 24 of 69 places in the event that involved 27 schools and 2,000 participants.
Some 18 students from the two schools will go to Washington, D.C., in June for the National History Day competition.
The competition is open to students in grade 4 to 12. This year's theme was "Triumph and Tragedy in History." Categories included essay, display board, performance, documentary and Web design.
