Driver in freeway incident charged

A driver who crashed through a roadblock at a critical motor vehicle accident scene early Saturday was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant.
Rhonel Paguirigan, 25, was released after posting $500 bail for the misdemeanor offense, according to police. His court appearance is June 12 at 'Ewa District Court.
Two officers were injured when Paguirigan allegedly drove his speeding car through the roadblock on H-1 Freeway near Makakilo about 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
One officer suffered cuts and first-degree burns to his face, hands and arms when his blue-and-white patrol vehicle burst into flames after being hit by Paguirigan's car.
A second officer suffered a cut hand and neck strain.
Both officers were treated at Hawai'i Medical Center-West and released.
The roadblock had been set up as officers investigated a motorcycle accident that left a 46-year-old man in critical condition earlier that night.
KAUA'I RESIDENT CHARGED IN DEATH
Kaua'i prosecutors have charged a 27-year-old man with manslaughter in the death of a woman he allegedly kicked in the chest Wednesday during a domestic confrontation.
Shane N. Duncan, of Wailua Homesteads, was being held at the Kaua'i Community Correctional Center in lieu of $101,200 bail.
He is accused of kicking Marie Annette Mundon, 65, who died Thursday at Wilcox Hospital.
According to police, Mundon was holding one of her grandchildren in the driveway of her Wailua home about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday when Duncan, who is the father of the child, drove up, shoved Mundon and grabbed the child.
Mundon's husband, 68, confronted Duncan.
Marie Mundon was kicked in the chest while pulling her husband away from Duncan, police said.
MAUI BICYCLIST KILLED IN COLLISION
A bicyclist was killed Saturday on Maui when he was struck by a car while crossing Keolani Drive. The 7:59 a.m. accident closed a main access to Kahului Airport for nearly three hours.
The bicyclist was believed to be a 62-year-old man, but his name was not released.
Maui traffic investigators said the bicyclist was riding north on Keolani Drive near the intersection of A'alele Street when he was hit by a 1990 Toyota Camry heading west toward Kahului.
The bicyclist died at the scene.
KANE'OHE BURN VICTIM IDENTIFIED
An 87-year-old man who died Saturday after being treated for burns suffered at his Kane'ohe home on May 1 was identified yesterday as Seiyu Shirota.
Shirota died Saturday at Straub Clinic & Hospital at 6:35 p.m. He was burned in an accident at his home, police said.
MAN BADLY HURT IN FALL FROM TRUCK
A man was critically injured last night when he fell from the back of a pickup truck in La'ie.
Police said the truck had turned left from Kamehameha Highway onto Hale La'a Boulevard, which leads to the Mormon temple, when the accident occurred.
The accident was reported to police at 8:07 p.m.
Emergency Medical Service spokesman Bryan Cheplic said the injured man was taken to Kahuku Hospital and then transferred by helicopter to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.
