We know more plants save the planet, but some of us need an expert opinion on greenery, an idea for getting the most from your landscaping or garden supplies. There's the two-day 2007 Green Industry Conference & Trade Show, which begins Wednesday at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall, with speakers and panelists from Hawai'i and across the nation, as well as demonstrations. (Admission: free. Parking $4 before 5 p.m., $5 after 5 p.m.; www.lichawaii.com.) Speakers include Jim Gibbons of Wynn Resort Las Vegas, discussing landscape design and maintenance.

FIZZ YOUR WAY TO A CLEANER, FREE-FLOWING KITCHEN-SINK DRAIN
For a natural way to bust the clogs in your sink, try this recommendation from Real Simple: Sprinkle 1/2 cup baking soda down the drain, followed by 1/2 cup vinegar. Cover the top of the drainpipe with a wet washcloth, wait five minutes. Then run steaming hot water down the sink.

FINAL WORD
"People talk about cravings as if they're a bad thing. I'm not so sure. I think cravings are cool. They're a sign of life. A symbol of potential. A portal to opportunity and change."
