Companies' increasing dependence on their computer data centers will be discussed at a meeting of the Hawai'I Telecommunications Association on May 23. Speaking on "Why Electricity is the Biggest Threat Facing Businesses" will be Jeff Brown, CEO of DR Fortress, which was formed last year to address a local shortage of "premium colocation services" — those that house an organization's servers and applications. (The colocation provider is often responsible for supplying power, lights, network bandwidth and the physical security of the site.) The HTCA meeting is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. registration (noon-1 p.m. program) at the Hale Koa Hotel, Waikiki Showroom. Fee; nonmembers/students welcome. A meeting to form a local chapter of PRIDE AT WORK — the national AFL-CIO constituency group representing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender workers, and their supporters, in the workplace — will be held 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at Honolulu Community College, Building 5, Room 104.
