Things were too close for Roosevelt's Iwalani Rodrigues entering the fourth period last night against Farrington.

So she decided to take over.

Rodrigues scored 10 of her 18 points in the fourth as Roosevelt beat Farrington, 29-18, in an O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red Division semifinal at McKinley High.

"In the fourth quarter, the score was too close and I didn't want to lose," Rodrigues said. "I really wanted back-to-back OIA champs. Someone told me to step up."

East champion Roosevelt (13-1) will play West champion Radford (13-1) for the title tomorrow night at McKinley.

Farrington (10-5) led 18-16 entering the fourth, but shot 0 of 6 from the field over the final eight minutes and didn't get to the line.

"We didn't get our shots down the stretch and it was the Iwalani Show down the stretch," Farrington coach Jenic Tumaneng said.

Tiana Sugui added a 3-pointer during the Rough Riders' 13-0 fourth-quarter run. Roosevelt was 5 of 7 from the field in the fourth. Sugui left the game with 4:26 remaining with an ankle injury.

Roosevelt junior point guard Dianna Zane assisted on three of Rodrigues' four fourth-period field goals.

Roosevelt entered the game averaging 50.8 points per contest. Last night, it finished 11 of 32 from the field with 15 turnovers.

"We struggled on offense today," Zane said. "We didn't run some of our stuff we usually rely on."

Rodrigues, a 5-foot-9 junior guard, added eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

The Governors shot 7 of 34 from the field and committed 16 turnovers.

"Our defense, we held them to 18 points, which is phenomenal," Roosevelt coach Bobby Keanini said.
