GOING VEGAS
Silverton casino adding tower

By Anthony Curtis

Silverton, the first Las Vegas casino you encounter when driving in from the south on I-15, has announced a $500 million expansion, the focal point of which will be a 25-story 360-room hotel tower. The plans also call for three new restaurants, a new pool, an elite spa, and a concert amphitheater that will host big-name entertainment. The casino has been upgrading and continues to improve its status under the stewardship of watchful owner Ed Roski. And this may not be the last of it: Silverton still has 75 acres of undeveloped land adjacent to the resort.

CARMEN OUT, PAM IN: Lose a star, get a bigger one. Carmen Electra has pulled out as the guest star of magician Hans Klok's upcoming "The Beauty of Magic" show at Planet Hollywood, but she's been replaced by Pamela Anderson. The show that was due to debut May 12, has been pushed back to June 2 with previews May 24-26. Tickets for all previews will be $35, with seats priced at $35, $65 and $105 thereafter.

BROADWAY TO VEGAS: As expected, "Jersey Boys" will be the next Broadway import to hit the Las Vegas Strip. The Tony Award-winning musical will open with the Palazzo Resort, sister and adjacent property to the Venetian, in early 2008.

DOWNTOWN CLUBBING: Las Vegas nightclub-mania has spread to downtown, where two new nightclubs have just opened. The first is the Four Queens' Canyon Club, an offshoot of the popular L.A. nightspot. The second is a late-night club called the Speakeasy, which opens at 11:30 nightly on the 24th floor of Binion's, after they're done serving dinner in the steak house.

Q. Which casinos will deal blackjack outdoors by the pool this summer?

A. The following casinos will deal live blackjack at tables set up near their pools: Hard Rock, Mandalay Bay, Palms, Red Rock Resort, Tropicana and Wynn. No word yet on times and limits. The Tropicana's is the famous game on a table in the pool, where blowers are provided to dry wet currency.
