So, the state Department of Education deserves an A+ for its decision to use the popular video arcade game Dance Dance Revolution as part of physical education classes beginning in the 2007-08 academic year.
Up to now, team and competitive sports have been the mainstays of school physical education programs. That has sidelined many children who are not athletically gifted. With this new program, the school system is shifting to an emphasis on lifetime fitness activities.
We can't risk letting children who don't enjoy team sports or other traditional activities to drift away from physical fitness. Physical activity is not only important for them as they grow, but they need to learn to make it a part of daily life.

This is one positive change in the school system that all of us should get behind. Businesses, health insurers, service organizations and even individuals can all help out. Find out what a school near you needs and offer to pitch in.
You will help build a healthier generation, which will then pass that love for physical activity on to their children.
