Local somebodies show off their footwork at "Dancing With Celebrities," the closest ticket to ABC's hit show "Dancing with the Stars." The event, a building-fund benefit for the Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association, features Lester Chang, city parks director; Tina Chau, KGMB reporter; Radasha Ho'ohuli, Miss Hawai'i USA 2006; Lynn Finnegan, state representative; Lisa Kubota, KGMB reporter; and Emme Tomimbang, above, TV producer, paired with HBDA instructors to battle it out on the dance floor.

Maybe you remember him from the days of "My So-Called Life," but heartthrob Jared Leto has a new role, as frontman of the band 30 Seconds to Mars, which brings its grunge rock to Pipeline Cafe. Band members are brothers Jared (guitar and vocals) and Shannon Leto (drums), Tomo Milicevic (guitar) and Matt Wachter (bass). The group's current release, "A Beautiful Lie," has spawned chart-topping hits "From Yesterday" and "The Kill." Opening acts include Building a Better Spaceship and Explore.

The scorching blades and acrobatic finesse of some of the most daring and talented performers take over the Polynesian Cultural Center at the 15th Annual World Fireknife Championships. Two new events are Teine Toa O Samoa, a female fireknife competition; and Warrior's Duet Fireknife Competition, in which two dancers perform a coordinated routine. Along with the championship events, visitors can attend the Samoan Cultural High School Arts Festival on May 19.

HULA: MAY 19

The Merrie Monarch hula festival is over, but you can still get a dose of the dance at the Hawai'i Secondary Schools Hula Kahiko Competition, above. Students from public and private schools around the state will converge for a day of Hawaiian culture, language and dance. The competition features students performing traditional-style hula in the kane, wahine (or hui 'ia (combined) categories.

CONCERT: MAY 19

Earth, Wind & Fire, known for its funky blend of soul and blues, is among the headliners of the 2007 Diamond Head Crater Celebration. This day-and-night festival with food, arts and music also will mark the world premiere of Mick Fleetwood's Island Rumours Band, showcasing the iconic Fleetwood Mac founder with Isle collaborators Raiatea Helm, Willie K and Eric Gilliom. Also participating: Gregg Rolie, the original voice of Santana; and Island favorite Yvonne Elliman.

The Hawai'i Book & Music Festival celebrates books, reading and music in the Islands, showcasing special guests Lois-Ann Yamanaka, Maxine Hong Kingston, Makana, Steve Inglis, Frank DeLima, Sam Choy, Jeff Gere and many more. Other attractions include storytellers and poetry slams; an interactive children's book and music fair; and children's theater performances.

FESTIVAL: MAY 19

A night of hot dancing and live music is on tap at the Hawaii International Latin Music Festival, featuring Rolando Sanchez and Salsa Hawaii. Also featured: The Brazilian Connection and Tropikalia Samba Show, Hypersquad Dance Company; and Hawai'i's own Judi Palmeira, Yvette Nii, DeShannon Higa and Pedro Haro will be joined by Larry Cook (sax man from England), and Mario Sanchez (percussionist with Chepito).

COMEDY: MAY 25

Nonstop laugh machine Augie T. (Tulba), above, will be joined by Champ Kaneshiro, Turk Cazimero, Timmy Mattos and other guests for comedy in the round at the Blaisdell Arena. Warning: Subjects may include our tall mayor, the local breed that flocks to Las Vegas or even ... you. The show is a benefit for the Speak the Dream Foundation, and five students from around the state who have been awarded scholarships will be recognized.

CONCERT: MAY 19

Scottish fiddle legend Alasdair Fraser. right, and cello prodigy Natalie Haas will be in town to conduct workshops and perform a free concert at 'Iolani School with opening act and local Celtic fiddler Lisa Gomes. Fraser founded California's Valley of the Moon Scottish Fiddle School, Celtic Connections Festival and the Sierra Fiddle Camp. He has released several critically acclaimed albums, including the Indie Award-winning "Dawn Dance" (Best Celtic Album of 1996), and more recently, "Legacy of the Scottish Fiddle, Volume Two" (2004). Haas is a recent graduate of Juilliard School of Music and has toured extensively with Mark O'Connor as a member of his Appalachia Waltz Trio. Hass and Fraser's duo release, "Fire & Grace," was awarded the Best Album of the Year in the Scots Trad Music Awards 2004.

Christian "screamo" band Emery and opening artist National Product will rock Pipeline Cafe. Emery's introduction to stardom came after the January 2004 release of its critically acclaimed debut "The Weak's End"; a nonstop tour schedule followed, including stints with Hawthorne Heights, Eighteen Visions and others. The band's follow-up album "The Question" was released November 2006.

Join pianist/composer Shawn Livingston Moseley, above, as he takes the stage for an evening of original music, art, dance and film at "The Storm Before the Calm." The lobby and courtyard of Mamiya Theatre will be transformed into an art gallery featuring pieces by Bryce and Judy A. NimitzMyers, Geoff Lee and Melissa Chimera. Musical guests include Jeff Peterson, Stephen Inglis, Jon Hawes, Jason Segler, Pumehana Davis Wadsworth; IONA Contemporary Dance Theater also performs.
