TRADE WINDS: Keith Kashiwada, who just wound up an acting stint in Y York's "Framed" at The ARTS at Marks Garage, recently finished taping a "Jeopardy" segment that will air sometime in July. Nope, can't talk about if he was a winnah. ...

Lt. Andy Baldwin, the Pearl Harbor-based doctor who stars on ABC's "The Bachelor" was an officer and a gentleman who created quite a stir when he dined at Keo's in Waikiki last week. He posed for photos with admirers, but was mum on to whom he has proposed. And now Keo's wall of fame has the handsome dude's photo among its celebrity collection. ...

It's been a hectic time for Channing Weir, the home-schooled 12-year-old who's been on "Lost" and is rehearsing for "Seussical" (playing the Cat in the Hat), May 5-20 at Kapolei High School cafeteria, presented by the Performing Arts Center of Kapolei. She did a public service spot for KGMB-TV, for The Advertiser's Kids Day project tomorrow, sang three tunes at a Kids Day kickoff at Compadres, and will be selling the newspaper at noon tomorrow with the Society of Seven Las Vegas, joined by our own Bob Marciel. ...

TALK ABOUT PEOPLE: People magazine (yesterday's issue) was loaded with Hawai'i-related coverage, including a page on Don Ho's passing, quoting locals such as Tom Moffatt and Cha Thompson. But the tribute, titled "Aloha Don," had a curious read-out that stated, "'Tiny Bubbles' was a huge hit. The Hawaiian icon spent his final days playing his 'ukulele to sold-out crowds." Huh? In all the years I've watched Don, he never strummed the uke on stage. Thompson's quote, which captioned a vintage pic, was right on target: "He knew how famous he was but could never understand it. I imagine right now he's looking down and thinking, 'Wow!'" ...

Same issue, Yunjin Kim of "Lost" called Terry O'Quinn the sexiest of her co-stars, bypassing Matthew Fox and Josh Holloway, the usual sex symbols. And then there was this Kim quote about the worst aspect of filming and living here: "Flying cockroaches. I swear, they are like birds." Of course, she's referring to those B-52 flying giants. ...

Then there was a mention and photo of former Islander Jim Simpson, who is the spouse of actress Sigourney Weaver; he's one of the off-Broadway director faves, who is founder-director of the Flea Theatre, in Lower Manhattan. ...

HELLO, DALAI: When the Dalai Lama boarded a Hawaiian Airlines flight to Maui last week, First Officer Kimi Haole Anderson had his book, "The Art of Happiness," in her flight bag. When she learned that she and Capt. Robert Hernandez would have His Holiness aboard, she fetched it, which he saw as he passed the cockpit. The Dalai Lama took Anderson's pen and scribbled in the book, even allowing a keepsake photo to be taken with Hernandez's camera. She was nervous but honored and said the Dalai Lama "had the cutest smile." ...

ITEMIZATIONS: Nyle Hallman, widow of Roy Hallman, the founder and former director of the Honolulu Boy Choir, said Roy had a peaceful farewell at their Hawai'i Kai home. "He watched 'Dancing With the Stars' the night before — and when I woke up at 2 a.m., he was already gone — but he looked happy, like he was watching TV." Services for Hallman will be at 5 p.m. today at Central Union Church, where friends may call from 3:30 p.m. Betcha the Boy Choir will sound like angels. ...

Bobby Moderow of Maunalua, a former Boy Choir member, said of Hallman's guidance: "He really was the very best mentor I had. ... He will be sorely missed, and I do know that he will be looking down upon me — and all the other entertainers that he helped — and say from the heavens with his booming voice, 'Marvelous.' " ...
