TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," 9 p.m., NBC. Detective Olivia Benson is a deeply layered character, played with subtle skill by Mariska Hargitay. She's a warm and caring person, but she's also deeply troubled by her family's past. That peaks in tonight's strong episode. At issue are her father and her half-brother, both apparent rapists. Mixed in are a federal agent (Vincent Spano) and the police captain (Kim Delaney) Benson worked with previously. This is Hargitay at her best. She ranges from rage in the interrogation room to doubts in a hostage crisis.

"The Mormons" conclusion, 9 p.m., PBS. The first half of this terrific film told of the Church of the Latter-day Saints being born in controversy and violence. Now comes an equally fascinating story: Setting aside those controversies and new ones, officials built a strong and stable organization with 12 million members worldwide.

OF NOTE

"America's Trashiest Weddings" and "Body Doubles: International Twins Search," 7 and 8 p.m., MyNetwork. Here's the latest twist by this struggling network. Its two telenovelas will each be confined to an hour a week, on Wednesdays. Replacing them on Tuesdays are assorted specials. Last week basically had two bikini contests; next week has the two-hour "Hooters Dream Girl Challenge." We may see a trend.

"American Idol," 7 p.m., Fox. This is rock week with Bon Jovi but there's more. Last week, the show cruelly implied that the wondrous Jordin Sparks had been eliminated — then said nobody was leaving. (It was a wretched trick, both insensitive — similar to the joke the boss pulls in the first episode of "The Office" — and dishonest.) Now last week's votes will be added to this week's; on Wednesday, two of the six will be ousted.

"George Lopez," 7 and 7:30 p.m., ABC. In the first rerun, George tries to convince Vic that his fiancee is cheating. In the second, George and Vic are a golf duo; Oscar de La Hoya plays an opponent.

"House," 8 p.m., Fox. A 10-year-old desperately wants to give bone marrow to his brother. First, however, his own infection must be cured.

"Boston Legal," 9 p.m., ABC. Alan defends Judge Weldon (Gail O'Grady) on a drug charge. Denny, who's rarely that helpful, merely lusts for her.
