BODYBUILDER HELD IN DRUG RAID

A bodybuilder was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of possessing steroids following a police narcotics/vice raid on a Pu'uloa home.

The 38-year-old man, booked for first and second-degree promotion of harmful drugs, was released last night pending further investigation.

Narcotics/Vice Division Capt. Kerry Inouye said charges are pending laboratory results of what he describes as a "significant amount" of what is believed to be steroids seized in a warrant search of the man's home.

Police acted on a tip and intercepted a package containing drugs before it was delivered to the man's house.

The man arrested competed in a national bodybuilding contest seven years ago but is not known to local bodybuilding promoter Mits Kawashima, who'll be presenting the 29th Hawaiian Islands Bodybuilding Championships on June 30.

Pohakuloa was recognized for developing creative and effective solutions to protect Hawai'i's unique ecosystems.

The base "is an outstanding example of how today's military is going green — and I'm not referring to olive drab," said H. Dale Hall, director of the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service.
