Ted Makalena Golf Course
Hole No. 17, 107 yards, pitching wedge
After having lost a few balls on shots in the fairway, I stopped playing the new balls, as this round was becoming expensive.
On the 17th hole, I decided not to change to a new ball owing to the water in front of me. I am not too bad around the greens and felt that I could just pitch to the green.
I didn't even tee the ball up. I dropped the ball and took aim and let it rip. The ball had a beautiful flight towards the pin and I saw it hit once on the green take a high bounce and disappear.
I figured it must have bounced off the green. On reaching the green, sure enough there was a ball, off the green but in the back and down an incline. I was then informed it was another player's ball. I saw the other players' balls around the green but couldn't find mine.
I thought that after losing balls on the fairway I had now lost a ball after hitting the green; a first. Just for a joke I said to the others that I had to check the cup. Lo and behold, to my surprise, there was my ball, an X'd out Top Flite.
I was shocked and it didn't really hit me until later when I bought the house a round at the snack bar.
