National team calls on UH's Houston

University of Hawai'i volleyball player Jamie Houston was selected as one of the 20 athletes in the U.S. Women's National A2 program.
The 20 college players will be split into two 10-member squads during training sessions prior to competing in the USA Volleyball Adult Open Championships May 26 to June 2 in Austin, Texas, according to a UH press release.
Houston, a left-side hitter, averaged 5.46 kills per game, ranking sixth in the country. She will be a junior next season.
USA Volleyball held open tryouts for selection to the A2 teams, in addition to the U.S. Women's Junior National Team and U.S. Women's National Team.

K-1 TICKETS ON SALE
Tickets for the K-1 World Grand Prix, to be held April 28 at Blaisdell Arena, will go on sale today through Ticketmaster.
The bout will feature United States' Mighty Mo, K-1 World Grand Prix 2003 and 2004 champion Remy Bonjasky, Brazil's Glaube Feitosa, Morocco's Badr Hari and K-1 Asia Grand Prix 2006 champion Yusuke Fujimoto of Japan.
The last K-1 event to be held in Hawai'i was at Aloha Stadium in 2005.
Tickets are priced at $40, $60, $100, $150, and VIP at $500.

BYUH WOMEN WIN
The top-ranked Brigham Young-Hawai'i women's tennis team beat Metro State, 6-0, yesterday at Pomona, Calif.
Dori Magas, Jing Jing Liu, Yuliya Ustyuzhanina, Anna Anikanova and Ramona Husaru each scored 6-0, 6-0 victories at the top five single slots for BYUH (14-0).
BYUH's Shenley Searing earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.
BASKETBALL
WHITING HONORED
Chaminade's senior point guard, Zack Whiting, the three-time First Team Pacific West Selection and the 2006-07 PacWest Conference Player of the Year is now an NABC All-Region Selection.
Whiting was named to the NABC Men's Basketball All-West Region First Team, announced on Thursday.

BYUH SPLITS PAIR
Jana Dewey's two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning rallied Brigham Young-Hawai'i past Grand Canyon, 7-6, yesterday in the second game of a Pacific West Conference softball doubleheader at Phoenix, Ariz.
Dewey's homer put the Seasiders ahead, 6-5, and Austin Long and Agesha Lightsy followed with back-to-back doubles for a 7-5 lead. Dewey also homered in the sixth.
Grand Canyon won the first game, 7-6. Dewey's three-run homer in the seventh pulled the Seariders (11-12 overall, 2-5 PacWest) to the final margin.
CHAMINADE SPLITS
Carolyn Fisher and Keli-Grace Saniatan each had three hits as Chaminade split a non-conference softball doubleheader against Faulkner yesterday at Central O'ahu Regional Park.
The Silverswords (6-19) beat the Eagles, 12-10, in the first game, and lost the second game, 7-6.
Jessica Tumlinson had four hits on the afternoon for the Eagles.
