UH diver Frick advances to semifinals at Australia

University of Hawai'i diver Magnus Frick was 10th on the 1-meter springboard preliminaries at the 12th FINA World Aquatic Championships and advanced to the semifinals today at Melbourne, Australia.
The junior from Ingaro, Sweden, scored a 370.00 on the six-dive list diving for his country as part of the two-week international event.
Yutong Luo of China led the prelims with a score of 466.50 followed by countryman Chong He (423.30).
Frick is coming off a second-place finish on the 1-meter and third-place showing on the 3-meter springboard events at the 2007 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championship at the University of Minnesota's University Aquatic Complex.
Frick is slated to dive in the 3-meter at the FINA tomorrow.
GOLF
UH FIFTH AFTER FIRST DAY
The University of Hawai'i men's golf team holds fifth place after the first day of the Western Intercollegiate yesterday at the Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz, Calif.
Purdue has a two-stroke lead at the 18-team tournament with a two-over-par 562. Long Beach State (564) is second, followed by Fresno State (566), Washington (573) and UH (574).
Travis Toyama is the top UH golfer, tied for 17th at 2-over 142 (72-70). Hawai'i's Cody Wolfenbarger (72-72—144) and Kyle Walters (73-71—144) are tied for 29th, followed by Ryan Perez (77-68—145) in a tie for 35th and Pierre-Henri Soero (76-73-149) in a tie for 52nd.
Long Beach State's Brett Lederer leads at 7-under 133 (67-66). The tournament concludes with a single round today.
SOFTBALL
HPU SWEEPS CU
Krystal Plunkett, Nicole Riviera and Tajia Acierto each drove in three runs as Hawai'i Pacific routed Chaminade, 19-0, to complete a Pacific West Conference softball doubleheader sweep Sunday at HPU Windward Field.
In the first game, Jessica Adolph drove in two runs and Sherise Musquiz fired a three-hitter in HPU's 9-0 win.
HPU is 16-2 overall and 8-0 in the PacWest. Chaminade is 5-18, 3-9.
