Two Hawai'i gymnasts win trampoline titles

Two Hawai'i gymnasts captured first place in their respective divisions at the USA Gymnastics Winter Classic for Trampoline and Tumbling on March 1 in Lubbock, Texas.
Nani Vercruyssen, a ninth-grader at Roosevelt High School, took first in the junior elite trampoline and first in the double mini-trampoline.
Spencer Dupio, a 10th-grader at Roosevelt, was first in the junior elite double mini-trampoline and finished seventh in the trampoline.
Two other Hawai'i athletes competed at the meet, with Kelsen Onigama (a sixth-grader at Kalakaua Middle School) finishing eighth in the junior elite double mini-trampoline and 14th in the trampoline; and Matt Moniz (a freshman at Leeward Community College) placing 10th in the senior elite trampoline and 11th in the double mini-trampoline.
Based on the Lubbock meet, Vercruyssen, Dupio and Onigama qualified for the U.S. Elite National Championships in Memphis, Tenn., from June 20 to 23.
