Maui Land & Pineapple Company Inc. said it is reorganizing its agricultural operations. Pineapple farmer Wesley Nohara was named general manager of Kapalua Farms and Gerry Watts was named general manager for Maui Pineapple Company Ltd.
The position of president and chief executive for the agricultural division was eliminated after the resignation of Brian Nishida.
Nishida, who headed the agricultural division for the past three years, is re-establishing his business consulting enterprise BG&C International LLC. He will work with ML&P as an adviser on acquisitions, new business and special projects, according to Maui Land & Pineapple.
TISSUE GENESIS WORK CONTINUES
Honolulu-based Tissue Genesis Inc. said it has received a $3.8 million contract from the U.S. Department of Defense to continue work on regenerative medicine. Tissue Genesis expects to use therapeutic cells recovered from injured soldiers' fat tissue to rapidly heal wounds and damaged tissue.
"We believe that there are tremendous applications for our technology in the military," said Anton Krucky, Tissue Genesis president and chief executive officer. "We see this contract as a vote of confidence in our work to find therapeutic solutions to acute and chronic medical conditions."
Krucky added that Tissue Genesis' plans to do clinical trials in support of soldiers and veterans are beginning to take shape.
RUTH'S CHRIS TO OPEN IN WAIKIKI
Ruth's Chris Steak House is planning to open its latest Hawai'i restaurant Monday at Waikiki Beach Walk on Lewers Street.
Ruth's Chris is the third major restaurant to open in the past several weeks at the Outrigger Enterprises project, following Yard House and Holokai Grill.
The national steakhouse chain has four Hawai'i restaurants operated by Arizona-based franchisee Desert Island Restaurants. The Waikiki restaurant will be the fifth, and will be open daily for dinner at 5 p.m.
