Big Island hit-and-run victim dies

A 34-year-old Mountain View pedestrian died early yesterday morning after he was hit late Friday night by a hit-and-run driver on North Kulani Road, one mile north of the Hawai'i Belt Road.
The Hawai'i County Police Department has opened a negligent-homicide investigation and is asking for the public's help in providing information.
Police said the man was walking north on North Kulani Road at around 10:30 p.m. Friday when he was hit by a vehicle traveling in the same direction. The driver fled the scene.
The man was pronounced dead at the Hilo Medical Center at 2:38 a.m. yesterday.
Police are looking for a Chevrolet with damage to the right headlight area. They said the vehicle may be blue, but investigators were unable to determine if it was a sedan, pickup or SUV.
