ADELIA C. CHUNG — who with her husband in 1996 became known for their battle to find a bone marrow donor for their late daughter, Alana Dung — is one of two new directors of the Friends of the Cancer Research Center of Hawai'i. The couple's 1996 effort prompted more than 30,000 people to register, making the Hawai'i registry one of the largest bone marrow donor programs nationwide. Along with being president of the Alana Dung Research Foundation, Chung is one of Hawai'i's top-selling life-insurance agents and a partner in Spectrum Wealth Management LLC. Also named to the cancer center's board is Maui resident EARL STONER, since 1979 president and owner of a commercial and industrial land development firm, S & F Land Co. The 50-year Hawai'i resident has served on the YMCA board on Maui for two decades and also is a member of the Seabury Hall School board. The cancer center, a research unit of the University of Hawai'i-Manoa, is one of 61 National Cancer Institute-designated cancer centers nationwide. It not only conducts cancer research, educational activities and community outreach, but also operates the Hawai'i Tumor Registry.
Attorney Lynn A.S. Araki-REGAN, recently head of the Maui Office of Economic Development, has returned to the law firm she founded a decade ago as Lynn A.S. Araki, Attorney-at-Law. The limited liability law firm, now Araki-Regan & Associates LLC, concentrates in commercial and business law, including governmental affairs, landlord/tenant, debt collection, and international law and transactions.
PAUL K. ITO, previously controller for Alexander & Baldwin Inc., has been promoted to vice president, controller and assistant treasurer. Ito joined A&B in April, 2005, as director, internal audit, and was promoted to controller a year later. Previously, he worked for Deloitte and Touche LLP, in its San Francisco national office. He is also a certified public accountant. A&B, headquartered in Honolulu, is engaged in ocean transportation and intermodal services, through subsidiaries, Matson Navigation Co., Inc. and Matson Integrated Logistics Inc.; in real estate, through A&B Properties Inc., and in food products, through Hawaiian Commercial and Sugar Co. and Kaua'i Coffee Co. Inc.
DAVID LANGILLE — a 23-year veteran of facilities management — has been hired by Kahala Nui senior living community as director of building operations, charged with technical training and development of staff members. When fully operational, Kahala Nui will be home to about 500 seniors and employ almost half that, about 225 people.
NorthStar, the Honolulu-headquartered "one-stop" real estate firm, has named LINDY O'SHEA, assistant vice president/director of support services. A veteran of international finance, she will oversee multiple company divisions, including administration staff management, as well as the marketing and recruiting departments. The firm operates an appraisal division, real estate division, training division, and a locally-owned and operated mortgage bank. The company prepares all aspects of the mortgage process locally, from loan origination to appraisals to funding. Previously, O'Shea was the lead letter-of-credit person for Britannia Jeans, and before that, one of the top five national salespeople for Elizabeth Arden.
AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) Honolulu — the 16,000-member professional association for design — has announced the following 2007 board of directors: president, Bernard Uy, partner and co-founder of Wall-to-Wall Studios; immediate past president, Bonnie Taam Sakai, of Bonnie Taam Design; treasurer, Matthew Heim, of Electric Pencil; secretary, Alicia Chang, of Honolulu Board of Realtors; programs and events chair, Tanna Hee, of Xpedx Paper; membership chair, Alan Low, of Alan Low Design; education co-chairs, Marlon Alojepan and Michael Horton, of University of Hawai'i-Manoa; sponsorship chair, Ryan Hirata, of Tactics Unlimited, and web chair, Travis Lum, of HMSA.
Honolulu resident Joji Seta has been named senior vice president and deputy manager of Central Pacific Bank's Japan Team. Before joining the bank, the Japan-born 32-year banking veteran was senior vice president for Bank of Hawai'i's International Client Banking. On the community front, Seta is a board member for both Kuakini Medical Center and Kuakini Health System. He is also an officer of the Nippon Club and works closely with other Japanese clubs and organizations.
