The Poker Dome in downtown's Neonopolis shopping mall is closing. It had been used to host and air poker tournaments on FOX Sports Net, but the shows will not be renewed, likely because of the effect of the Internet gambling bill on the show's online-gambling sponsor.

PAIRING UP: MGM Mirage and Kerzner International will team up to develop a multibillion-dollar megaresort on the north Strip. Kerzner, which owns the Atlantis Casino-Resort in the Bahamas, contributes cash while MGM Mirage provides the land (about 40 of the 78 acres it owns at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Sahara Avenue). The rest will be third-party investment and debt. The design phase is expected to take a year, and construction is scheduled for completion in 2011. No word yet as to brand or name.

DANZA, THE PRODUCER: Tony Danza ("Taxi," "Who's the Boss") reprises his Broadway role as theatrical producer Max Bialystock in the Las Vegas production of "The Producers" beginning Aug. 13 for an 18-week run.

Q. I read here about plans to turn the New Frontier into the Plaza. But isn't there already a Plaza in Las Vegas?

A. Downtown's former Union Plaza is now officially Plaza Las Vegas, with "Plaza" followed by a trademark symbol. It's likely that the new Plaza will have to work something out with the current Plaza if it wants to use that name. There's a precedent. Before opening the Mirage, Steve Wynn made a deal with an existing casino called La Mirage, which then became Anthony's, and later Key Largo (now closed).
