Man found stabbed but alive in Waialua field

Police have opened an attempted-murder investigation after a 32-year-old man was found early yesterday morning in a Waialua field suffering from stab wounds.

The man has not been positively identified, and neither police nor medical personnel were able to get any information from him, police said.

"According to doctors, the injuries are consistent with stab wounds, so they are investigating this as an attempted murder," said acting Lt. Fred Denault, police spokesman. "The person was uncooperative with medical personnel, and he is in an induced coma due to his injuries."

The victim's condition was serious but stable, Denault said.

At about 6:30 yesterday morning, a dog out on a walk with his owner found the injured man in a field off Cane Haul Road, which is off Waialua Beach Road, Denault said. The dog's owner took the victim to the Waialua fire station, where he was treated by medical personnel and taken to The Queen's Medical Center.

The man had been assaulted and stabbed, according to Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the Honolulu Emergency Services Department.

"He was stabbed multiple times," Cheplic said.

The lead detective on the case was unable to question the victim, Denault said, adding that the detective might be able to talk to the man today or tomorrow. There is no known suspect or motive, he said.
