The words "once upon a time" are magic to many a child's ears, and today a traveling exhibit that brings colorful, larger-than-life pages of fairy tales from around the world settles in at the Hawaii Children's Discovery Center.
"Once Upon A Time ... Exploring the World of Fairy Tales" is aimed at kids 3 to 10 and their folks. Youngsters can enter the multicultural tales "Anasi and the Talking Melon," from Africa, "Lon Po Po," from China, and the very familiar "Beauty and the Beast," "Cinderella," "Jack and the Beanstalk," "Thumbelina" and "The Elves and the Shoemaker."
Today's grand-opening schedule:
There will also be $1 carousel rides for keiki and other fairy-tale activities through the day.
"Once Upon a Time ... Exploring the World of Fairy Tales" continues through Dec. 7.
Happening nearby, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Kaka'ako Gateway Park, is another edition of the Keiki Swap Meet, designed to teach youngsters the value of money — in a fun way. Kids collect items for sale, price them and handle all transactions.
Buyers are admitted free. The swap meet is coordinated by the Children's Discovery Center.
