The YWCA of Oahu has now raised $5.2 million toward a planned $12 million renovation and will begin construction on the first phase this fall.
The make-over is the largest for the landmark building on Richards Street since it opened in 1927.
Work will begin with Cafe Laniakea and Elizabeth Fuller Hall, and that construction is expected to be completed the following fall, said Maile Alau, communications and donor relations manager.
The Y will also revamp its kitchen and dining areas as well as create state-of-the-art conference rooms.
The YWCA marked its 80th birthday yesterday with special festivities.
