Local firm to push 'Surf's Up'

Honolulu-based Tsunami Surf Simulators has signed a contract with Sony Entertainment America to promote the release of the movie "Surf's Up" on DVD.

The Honolulu-based company will provide surf simulators at more than 20 locations across the country as part of the marketing campaign for the movie's DVD release, said Paul Goo, chief executive officer of Tsunami Surf Simulators.


CHAMINADE TO PAY $50,000

Chaminade University will pay $50,000 to settle a lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on behalf of a woman who said the school withdrew a job offer one day after it found out she was pregnant, the federal agency announced yesterday.

An EEOC investigation found that Chaminade's explanation for not hiring Chie McCaughey "was a pretext and that the university refused to hire her because of her pregnancy," according to the EEOC.

The university denied it discriminated against her.


HOKU SCIENTIFIC OFF RUSSELL INDEX

Kapolei-headquartered Hoku Scientific Inc. was recently removed from Russell's U.S. equity indexes, and Ho-nolulu-based Barnwell Industries Inc. was added.

Energy company Hoku has a market capitalization of $158 million, while oil company Barnwell has a market value of $164 million.

Russell's index changes are followed closely by many investors.
