Former Big Islander Kim opens with a 75

Former Big Island resident Kimberly Kim shot a 5-over-par 75 and was tied for 11th after the first round of the Rolex Girls Junior Championship yesterday at Hiwan Golf Club in Evergreen, Colo.
Jane Rah, of Torrance, Calif., shot a 68 and had a two-stroke lead over Mina Harigae of Monterey, Calif.
Ayaka Kaneko, a Sacred Hearts student, shot a 76 and was tied for 15th in the 83-golfer field. Elyse Okada of Maui was tied for 20th after a 78.
The tournament ends tomorrow.

HAKALA SIGNS PRO PACT
Lauri Hakala, who completed his eligibility with the University of Hawai'i last season, has signed a professional contract with the Lausanne Universite Club Volleyball team in Switzerland.
Lausanne Universite Club has been one of the top pro teams in Switzerland the past 20 years.
Hakala, a 6-foot-3 opposite, will be coached by former Brigham Young University head coach Carl McGown, who has been a consultant for the Warriors the past two falls.

MISCUES IN PREPS
Kapolei High School named Ashlie Salas-Selem as its Female Scholar Athlete of the Year, Nicole Hagi as its Most Outstanding Female Athlete and Chyanne Alejado as its Female Hurricane of the Year.
Their names were omitted from a list published on Sunday.
Also, Konawaena principal Shawn Suzuki's first name was misspelled in yesterday's story on the Hawai'i High School Athletic Association's executive board.
