BUSINESS BRIEFS
Waikiki hotel offers free Net

Advertiser Staff and News Services

The Outrigger Reef on the Beach hotel said it is offering free Internet access and free phone calls to guests.

The Waikiki Beach hotel, undergoing a $100 million makeover, is installing free high-speed Internet access in all rooms and free high-speed wireless access in public areas; and offering free long-distance calls to the U.S. Mainland, Canada, and interisland.

Those services already are available in the hotel's recently unveiled Ocean Tower.

The hotel's fitness center was also renovated and re-opened as another complimentary amenity.

ARCHITECTURE SESSIONS FREE

The Seventh International Symposium on Asia-Pacific Architecture will be held June 14-16 at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa's School of Architecture.

The sessions are free and open to the public.

The theme of the three-day conference, "Architecture + Movement," is shorthand for a host of challenges facing the modern architect — sustainability, emerging technologies, the environment, transit, infrastructure, and new concepts of community.

Keynote speakers include William Mitchell, an author, MIT professor and director of the MIT Media Lab's Smart Cities research group; Donald MacDonald, a noted architect of bridges and historic bridge renovations; Robert Ivy, editor of the publication Architectural Record; and the national president of the American Society of Landscape Architects, Pat Caughey.
