Police yesterday were looking for a man who allegedly impersonated a police officer, pulled a woman over and tried to steal her car.

On May 23, a woman was driving on Pi'ikoi Street when she was pulled over about 7:45 p.m. by a man claiming to be a Honolulu police officer.

The man had a rotating blue light on the dashboard of his car and used a loudspeaker to order the woman to stop, police said. The man told the woman that she was being pulled over for a defective tail light and ordered her out of her car.

The woman, who was talking on her cell phone, refused to get out of her car and the man tried to grab the phone from her. The woman began screaming for help, and two men scared the suspect away, police said.

The man got into his car and drove off, police said.

Police ask that anyone with information about this incident to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300, or *CRIME on a cell phone. Free cellular calls to CrimeStoppers are provided by AT&T, Nextel Hawaii, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless Hawaii.
