Traveler magazine's list of the 101 most luxurious hotel and resort suites from around the world included three from Las Vegas. The Palms scored twice — once for the Hugh Hefner Sky Villa, which at $40,000 per night, also topped the most-expensive list, and again for the Hardwood Suite, with its indoor basketball court. Caesars Palace's new Absolut Suite was picked for its spectacular views of the Las Vegas Strip.
Poker champ: Jerry Yang, a 39-year-old psychologist from Temecula, Calif., has won the 38th World Series of Poker main-event championship. Yang started fast on the final table and held the lead throughout, finally winning when he made an inside straight to oust runner-up Tuan Lam. Yang's first prize was $8.25 million, a result of 6,358 players paying the $10,000 buy-in — the second-largest field in series history.
Q. I called Ticketmaster about the discounted Cirque du Soleil tickets you wrote about last week, and they didn't know what I was talking about. Was this a mistake?
A. The offer is real, but the column's instructions were incomplete. The "Summer of Cirque" promotion, which offers tickets to any Cirque show for just $50, is accessible online only. Log on to www.ticketmaster.com/summerofcirque. Additionally, "Zumanity" at New York-New York is offering a deal through Sept. 20 by which you can get $99 seats for $79 (plus taxes and fees), and you get a complimentary cocktail or appetizer. And you can call the box office for this one, 866-606-7111.
