While these fabulous hats look as though they belong at the Ascot races — or at least an English garden party — they were designed by Takeo and Eric Eugene Kamakahia'ai Chandler for a lucky local woman who is the successful bidder at an auction that's part of the "Fit for a Queen Fashion Show" benefiting Friends of 'Iolani Palace.

The show will feature models wearing re-creations of gowns worn by members of Queen Kapi'olani's court, in addition to ready-to-wear mu'umu'u created by Princess Kaiulani Fashions.

In addition to Takeo and Chandler, a number of prominent local artists are designing hats for the auction. Among them: Anne Namba, Pegge Hopper, Mary Philpotts and Michelle Henry.

The fashion show takes place 10 a.m. to noon July 29 at the 'Iolani Palace Barracks (on the 'ewa-mauka side). Tickets are $35. For more information, call 522-0822 by Wednesday.

The event is a precursor to the Royal Garden Party, a fundraiser for Friends of 'Iolani Palace that will be held in September.

VINTAGE MING'S JEWELRY

For those who simply cannot get enough glimpses at Ming's jewelry since Wook Moon's 1941 design firm closed its doors in 1999, longtime collector Linda Lee is making her extensive collection visible this weekend, 4 to 9 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow at the Hawaii All-Collectors Show in the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. A display of Lee's hand-carved and colored ivory in the shape of Hawaiian flowers with pieced gold work, jade and pearls is especially rare. She has also collected Ming's pikake, orchids, ginger, bamboo, fish and anthuriums, to name a few. In addition, Lee will be available to offer free appraisals of your Ming's pieces.

CUT N SEWN PARTY

Emerging fashion designer Dan Weaver will celebrate one year of his line Cut N Sewn at a party from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. today at thirtyninehotel in Chinatown.

Attendees will be able to purchase Weaver's latest collection of T-shirts and view his newest designs. Cover: $7.

COCOJOR OPENS STORE

Monica Shigenaga, owner of Cocojor Hawaiian Doggie apparel, has just opened her first flagship store, in her hometown of Honolulu. Called Kaimana Hale, the cute shop is in a renovated pink wood building with plantation-house green trim at 905 S. Queen St., in Kaka'ako.

In addition to her canine apparel line, Shigenaga will carry her Hawaii 5-0 Cooling Vests, Zen Spa collection, doggy mu'umu'u and dresses, outerwear, beachwear, hats and other pet treats.
