Three Oahu traffic accidents leave 9 people injured

Several people were hurt in traffic accidents on O'ahu yesterday, one of them critically.
A pedestrian suffered serious injuries in a hit-and-run accident in Waikele and another man was critically injured in a one-car crash in Kane'ohe early yesterday morning.
And a small girl was seriously hurt yesterday afternoon in a head-on collision in Waimanalo. Six other people were injured in that accident.
In the first accident, police are asking for the public's help in identifying the driver of a vehicle that struck a man in a crosswalk in Waikele and then fled the scene. The accident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. on Lumiaina Street, just east of Lumiauau Street.
Police said a 41-year-old 'Ewa Beach man had just parked his car on Lumiauau Street and was crossing Lumiaina Street when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle making a left turn from Lumiauau Street. Police said the man was in a crosswalk when he was hit.
The man suffered head injuries and a dislocated knee and was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition.
The vehicle that hit the man was described only as a light-colored sport utility vehicle. Police said they did not know if the vehicle was damaged as a result of the collision.
Speed may have been a factor, police said.

Police said speed was a factor in a crash that critically injured a 19-year-old man in Kane'ohe.
At about 4:20 a.m. yesterday, the 19-year-old man suffered critical injuries when his van crashed into a wall along Kane'ohe Bay Drive. Police said the Kane'ohe resident was heading east on Kane'ohe Bay Drive when his van veered to the right shoulder at the bend near Moakaka Place and struck the cement tile wall.
The driver was pinned in the van and had to be extricated by Honolulu Fire Department rescue personnel. He was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.
In the Waimanalo accident, a 19-month-old girl was in serious condition and six others injured in a head-on collision near Waimanalo Beach Park yesterday afternoon.
The accident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. on Kalaniana'ole Highway near the beach park. The cars collided head-on and one of the vehicles rolled over, said Emergency Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic.
The driver of the overturned car, a 34-year-old woman, and her 9-year-old daughter were able to get out of the vehicle. The 19-month-old girl in the backseat of the vehicle was seriously injured and all three were taken to The Queen's Medical Center for treatment. Cheplic said none of the injuries appeared to be life threatening.
Meanwhile, four people — two women and two 3-year-old girls — in the other vehicle were taken to Castle Medical Center in stable condition.
