A 42-year-old man was indicted Wednesday for first-degree negligent homicide for allegedly driving under the influence of intoxicants and causing a crash that killed a Honoka'a man two years ago.

Calvin Derego faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

Police were called to Kapulena Airstrip Road in Hamakua the night of May 21, 2005, and determined that a Honoka'a man was driving a 1979 Jeep north on the airstrip road when the vehicle ran off the left side of the road and overturned.

Jarrod Lawrence, 24, died in the crash. The driver and two other Honoka'a men were hospitalized.
