THREE FROM SHAKESPEARE

All the world's a stage, thanks in large part to William Shakespeare. Fans of The Bard will be glad to know that the Hawaii Shakespeare Festival is alive and well and begins Aug. 8 at The ARTS at Marks Garage. The lineup:

  • "The Taming of the Shrew," directed by Linda Johnson. The comedy is given a modern twist as the developments take place on- and offstage of a prime-time TV soap opera. Elizabeth Wolfe is the shrewish Kate; Reb Beau Allen is Petruchio, her match.

    Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Aug. 8-11 and 3:30 p.m. Aug. 12.

  • "King John," directed by Tony Pisculli. England's monarch is at war against the French in a tale of loyalty and political intrigue — with much action and even touches of humor. Todd Coolidge is King John; Rob Duval is the Bastard.

    Showtimes: 7:30 p.m. Aug. 15-18 and 3:30 p.m. Aug. 19.

  • "Titus Adronicus," directed by Harry Wong III. The Roman general is haunted by his wartime violence in this tragedy of bloodlust. Stephen Mead is Titus Andronicus, Danel Verdugo is the vengeful Tamora.

    Showtimes: 7:30 p.m. Aug. 22-25 and 3:30 p.m. Aug. 26.
