Roosevelt's Iwalani Rodrigues seemed to always make basketball look easy this season in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association, even though it was not.
But coaches in the OIA Red Conference Eastern Division recognized Rodrigues' effort, voting her as Player of the Year.
Rodrigues, a smooth 5-foot-9 junior guard, averaged 15.3 points per game with an impressive all-around game that featured fluid open-court moves, inside scoring and a soft touch from the perimeter.
She had some of her best performances in the most crucial games, including 16 points in an early showdown with Kalani and 20 points and 10 rebounds in the rematch, with the Rough Riders winning both games en route to the division title.
Rodrigues, a repeat OIA East all-star first team selection, is joined on this year's East elite five by Kalaheo's Shanadee Canon, Farrington's C'ani Kealoha, Moanalua's Jamie Ronolo and Kalani's Courtney Gaddis.
Canon, a 5-9 senior guard/forward, averaged 16.3 points per game and is a repeat first-team selection.
Kealoha, a 5-6 senior guard, was one of the top shooters in the OIA.
Ronolo, a 5-5 guard, averaged 15.7 points per game and helped Na Menehune gain a state tournament berth.
Gaddis, a 5-11 forward, averaged 13.3 points per game and helped the Falcons (10-2) to a runner-up finish in the East after being promoted from the White Conference.
Roosevelt's Bobby Keanini was named Coach of the Year after leading the Rough Riders (11-1) to their second straight East crown.
