The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team unveiled a new lineup and came away with a 62-57 victory over host Utah State on Saturday.

Tanya Smith had 24 points and nine rebounds and newcomer Megan Tinnin added a career-high 17 points in a Western Athletic Conference game.

A crowd of 740 at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum watched the Rainbow Wahine (8-12, overall, 2-6 WAC) snap a five-game road losing streak. The Aggies (7-12, 3-4) lost their second straight game.

Tinnin, a freshman guard from Albuquerque, N.M., earned her first start and made 6 of 9 shots, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range. She also had four assists.

Hawai'i's Pam Tambini recorded her eighth career double-double and sixth of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Smith, the reigning WAC Player of the Week, made 7 of 12 shots, 10 of 11 free throws, and had four assists.

The 'Bows never trailed in the game but had to fend off the Aggies who rallied from a nine-point deficit with just over two minutes left to get within one point with 20 seconds left.

Tinnin's free throw made it 59-57, and Utah State had a chance to tie or win the game in the final seconds, but Janevia Taylor stole the ball and sank three free throws for the final margin.

Hawai'i led by as many as 10 points in the first half and 11 points in the second half.

The 'Bows finished 19 of 26 from the free-throw line and outrebounded the Aggies, 42-33.

Hawai'i's Brittany Grice, a senior center, returned to the starting lineup for the first time since mid-December and finished with four points, eight rebounds and three blocks.

Amy Kotani, a junior guard from Moanalua High, got her first start since the second game of the season. She had two points, one assist and one rebound.

Taylor Richards led Utah State with 13 points and Brittany Phillips added 11 points.

Hawai'i returns home to host WAC foe Nevada on Feb. 3.
