Alleged kidnap victim says he knew captors

A 20-year-old man who was kidnapped Jan. 16 in Kahala told police he ate with his captors at a McDonald's, smoked crystal meth with them at Pearl City Industrial Park and was given a puppy upon being released unharmed in the University Avenue area, according to a report filed yesterday at District Court.

The report, compiled by Detective Gary Lahens, said victim Riki Asato admitted knowing Christopher George Gallarde, 27, and Daniel Blaine Collins, 29, who are charged with first-degree robbery and kidnapping.

The case involved the Alakoa Street carjacking of a woman's 1990 Lexus by the two men, one of whom had a gun. The woman was robbed of her purse containing a passport, two cell phones, a PlayStation PSP handheld video game and $60 cash.

The men, identified as Gallarde and Collins, ordered her out of the car and drove off with a man who was in the car and Asato, who had been in the home.

The male passenger was released a short time later after turning over his cell phone, hat and $70 cash.

The Lexus was dumped in Kaimuki after running out of gas and being stripped of its Alpine stereo system, valued at $2,500. Asato told police that Trevor Kerr, who is charged in an unrelated auto theft, picked the three men up in a Toyota Camry.

Asato asked his captors several times if he could leave but was told no.

Asato initially told police he jumped from the car to escape but later said he was let go at a bus stop and given a puppy by Kerr.

A preliminary hearing for Gallarde, Collins and Kerr is scheduled tomorrow at District Court.

Gallarde is also charged with a Jan. 8 armed robbery and burglary in Kunia.
