CHILD & FAMILY SERVICE
Domestic-abuse shelter seeks volunteers to: supervise children in the playroom while resident mothers attend support groups on site; do light office work; support fundraising efforts and more.
4-H YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Volunteers lead youth on an agricultural/environmental tour of a 30-acre facility in Pearl City. Youth can smell the herb garden's plants, collect seeds throughout the gardens, taste fruit in the 5-acre tropical fruit orchard, use their senses in the sensory garden, pop firecracker flowers, and even pull carrots.
FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM — HAWAI'I
Dedicated, caring seniors, 60 and older, are needed to serve special-needs and exceptional-needs children in public schools, Head Start, and nonprofit organizations. Foster grandparents make a difference in children's lives by strengthening them and preparing them for the future. Men needed.
MENTAL HEALTH AMERICA IN HAWAII
Online marketing guru needed. Mental Health America of Hawaii (formerly the Mental Health Association) needs help increasing traffic to its Web site, making it more manageable, developing an online newsletter, and developing and maintaining an online marketing program.
AMERICAN DIABETES ASSOCIATION, HAWAII
Office volunteers are needed for tasks including preparing for events, photocopying, cataloging materials, stuffing envelopes, data entry and newsletter design.
HEALTHY HAWAI'I COALITION
Volunteers who like working with children are needed to participate in the popular Hawaii Watershed Experience program. The program takes elementary students statewide on a field trip to a natural area near their school for fun, hands-on activities to teach them the importance of protecting the environment.
HAWAII GIFTED ASSOCIATION
The Hawaii Gifted Association wants to create a focus group that will explore the possibilities of applying to the Department of Education for a Charter School for Gifted and Talented Students. Volunteers are needed to spread the word through schools, media, e-mail and other outlets to attract parents and educators to participate in the focus group and set up focus group meetings.
Also, a volunteer is needed to recreate a database of interested parents and educators.
