'Bows fall to Fresno St., drop to 0-4 in WAC

Chantella Perera scored a career-high 28 points as Fresno State fended off Hawai'i, 75-69, in overtime yesterday in a Western Athletic Conference women's basketball game in Fresno, Calif.

A crowd of 1,051 at the Save Mart Center watched Hawai'i (6-10, 0-4) drop its fifth straight.

Fresno State (10-7, 3-1) won its sixth straight over Hawai'i.

Hawai'i's Tanya Smith had 19 points and 11 rebounds. Iwona Zagrobelna added a career-high 17 points and 12 rebounds, Janevia Taylor had 15 points and Pam Tambini chipped in 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Rainbow Wahine rallied from a 13-point first-half deficit and an eight-point hole with four minutes left to tie the score at 63 on a pair of free throws by Zagrobelna with nine seconds left in regulation.

Hawai'i scored the first basket in the five-minute extra period, but Fresno State scored six straight and would not let Hawai'i back into the game.

UH outrebounded Fresno State, 50-37, but committed 24 turnovers.
