Purim will have African flavor

Chabad of Hawaii is holding "Purim in Africa," a Purim event with an African flavor, beginning at 4:30 p.m. March 4 at Ala Moana Hotel, 410 Atkinson Drive, second floor.
Part of their "Purim Around the World" series, Chabad will offer an African buffet, music, arts and crafts, a megillah (scroll of Esther) reading at 5 p.m. and masquerade with prices.
The cost is $20 (5 percent discount for families of four or more).

ORDINATION OF BISHOP MARCH 10
The Episcopal Diocese of Hawai'i will ordain the Rev. Canon Robert L. Fitzpatrick as its fifth bishop at 10 a.m. March 10 at St. Andrew's Cathedral.
In the ordination of a bishop in the Episcopal Church, at least three other bishops must be present. Those will include Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori. The Rev. Edmond Browning, former presiding bishop and Hawai'i's second bishop, will give the lecture. Co-consecrators will be the outgoing bishop, Richard S.O. Chang, and Edward S. Little, bishop of northern Indiana (Fitzpatrick's former bishop), among others.

CHURCH WOMEN HOSTING 3 EVENTS
Church Women United is hosting three events this year, beginning with the World Day of Prayer, which occurs annually the first weekend in March.
Events include a gathering at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth's Church, 720 N. King St.
Other events are World Friendship Day in May and World Community Day in November.

PERFORMANCE ON PURIM EVE SLATED
Temple Emanu-El will present "The Megillah Goes to Woodstock" at its sanctuary.
The free Purim eve performance is planned for 7 p.m. next Saturday.

LENTEN STUDY SET FOR TUESDAY
A Lenten study on "Stewardship — the Vocation of the Human Being and the Mission of the Church" will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Weaver Hall at Church of the Crossroads, 1212 University Ave.
The series continues Tuesdays through March 27, when the "The Great Warming" will be screened.

TWO WORKSHOPS ON DATING SCENE
"Matters of the Heart: Open to Possibilities" will be at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Our Lady of Sorrows (Wahiawa) and Central Union Church, respectively.
Cost: $10 for the two-hour workshop, led by Counseling & Spiritual Care Center experts who will discuss the dating scene and ways to assess one's personality and compatibility with others.

USING ART TO DEAL WITH GRIEF
A workshop at the Ko'olau Golf Club will use art to help people deal with grief.
"Reframing the Grief Journey," sponsored by (among others) St. Francis Hospice, will be presented at 8:30 a.m. March 31 at the Koolau Golf Club, 45-550 Ki'ona'ole Road. Presentations will cover how visual art, music and crafts play an integral part in the healing process.
The cost is $50 by March 8 (includes lunch), $55 after then.
