Wichita State sweeps Hilo

Damon Sublett had four hits, including two triples, and drove in four runs as No. 12 Wichita State defeated Hawai'i-Hilo, 11-4, last night to complete a sweep of a non-conference doubleheader at Wong Stadium in Hilo.
Andy Dirks added four hits and Derek Schermerhorn had three hits as the Shockers (3-2) pounded three pitchers for 16 hits.
Robby Mowers had two hits and Michael Higa had two RBIs for the Vulcans (0-11).
In the first game, Wichita State starter Aaron Shafer pitched five strong innings, allowing a run and three hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. Three relievers each followed with 1 1/3 innings of work to finish off the Vulcans.
Conor Gillaspie and Josh Workman each had two hits and an RBI for the Shockers.
Dayne Ogawa batted 2 for 4, including a solo homer, and Mowers hit a two-run double for the Vulcans.
Hilo starter Joe Davis (0-3) allowed six runs (three unearned), seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six innings.

UH'S MASON HONORED
Hawai'i's Kelly Mason was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Mikasa Player of the Week in women's water polo yesterday.
Mason, a sophomore utility from Auckland, New Zealand, scored 12 goals in leading the fourth-ranked Rainbow Wahine to three home-opening MPSF victories at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
She scored two goals in a 10-9 overtime victory over No. 6 San Diego State, then scored five goals in an 11-9 win over No. 12 Long Beach State and five in a 12-8 triumph over No. 10 Arizona State.
Mason is second in the MPSF in scoring with a 3.0 goals per match average.
Hawai'i, which is 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the MPSF, will next play at UCLA tomorrow and UC Irvine Friday before competing in UC Irvine's Anteater Invitational over the weekend.
