Internet service offering prizes

Hawaiian Telcom said its high-speed Internet service has attracted about 99,000 subscribers since it debuted almost six years ago.

It has started a sweepstakes to celebrate nearing its 100,000th subscriber. The grand prize is high-speed Web service for life and $10,000.

There also will be daily drawings for $1,000.

Y. HATA GETS FEDERAL CONTRACTS

Honolulu's Y. Hata & Co. today was awarded two federal government food distribution contracts worth a maximum of $77.6 million during the next two years.

The company received a maximum $44 million fixed-price contract for full-line food distribution services for the Navy. Y. Hata also won a maximum $33.6 million fixed-price contract for full-line food distribution services for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Job Corps Center federal civilian agency and Coast Guard.


JETBLUE PROMISES FUTURE VOUCHERS

NEW YORK — JetBlue Airways introduced a customer bill of rights yesterday that promises vouchers to fliers who experience delays. The company hopes the move will win back passengers after an operational meltdown damaged its brand and stock price.

Founder and chief executive David Neeleman described the crisis as "a huge bump in the road" but said JetBlue will move past it. JetBlue's shares fell 66 cents, or 4.87 percent, to close at $12.90 on the Nasdaq Stock Market yesterday.


HEWLETT-PACKARD PROFIT UP 26%

SAN FRANCISCO — Hewlett-Packard Co.'s first-quarter profit jumped 26 percent as the company benefited from higher sales of laptop computers, printers and printing supplies during a robust holiday spending season.

The company said it earned $1.55 billion, or 55 cents a share, for the quarter ended Jan. 31, compared with $1.23 billion, or 42 cents per share, in the same period last year.
