'Ewa Beach's Brooke Doane and Kailua's Skyler Tateishi are two of Hawai'i's top tennis players scheduled to play in the USTA Boys and Girls 18's National Open, tomorrow through Wednesday at Central O'ahu Regional Park in Waipi'o.

The five-day event is one of the most prestigious national junior tournaments in the nation, and it combines the top junior players from around the United States with rising junior stars of Hawai'i.

Admission is free.

In Hawai'i, Doane is ranked No. 1 in the girls 18's, and Tateishi is ranked No. 1 in boys 18's. Other Hawai'i players scheduled to compete are: Reid Kiyabu, Kristin Lim and Nicole Nakaoka of Honolulu, Lahaina's Jonell Magdaong, Kaitlan Sera and Kelleen Sera, Kane'ohe's Stephen Royalty and Mililani's Megan Yoshimoto.

The National Open is the only national tennis event held in Hawai'i, and it is part of the National Open Championships series. The National Open Championships are a series of junior events held throughout the nation that help to determine the top U.S. junior players.

"Over the past years, this tournament has attracted some really top players and on average, competitors come from over 22 states," said tournament director Bernard J. Gusman. "Each year, not only do our best Hawai'i players participate, but we normally have many players ranked in the top 100 in the country, including several ranked in the top 10."

The USTA Community Day, an event with adult and kids' clinics and demos from Hawai'i tennis pros along with games and prizes, will be held Monday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. JN Automotive Group will also showcase some of its newest cars on-site at the tournament.
