The University of Hawai'i still needs local business professionals to volunteer as coaches and judges for this year's annual student business plan competition.
The competition, put on by the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship & E-Business at UH's Shidler College of Business, runs from February through April. Judging begins Wednesday.
Mentoring duties include sharing knowledge and critiquing business plan drafts and oral presentations. Judging duties include scoring up to six plan summaries via e-mail, scoring up to five plans and scoring oral presentations.
To sign up or to receive more information, visit UH BusinessPlanCompetition.com. Also, interested judges can e-mail Tracy Taira at ttaira@hawaii.edu.
$250,000 GIFT FOR PROFESSORSHIP
A California couple have donated $250,000 to create an endowed professorship at the University of Hawai'i's Shidler College of Business.
John and Sue Dean's gift will be combined with $250,000 in matching funds provided by real estate entrepreneur Jay Shidler to create the John and Sue Dean Distinguished Professorship.
In September 2006, Shidler donated $25 million to the university to transform its business college into one of the top-25 such programs at public universities.
John Dean is managing general partner of Startup Capital Ventures, a private equity fund that invests in venture capital funds and startup technology firms. Startup Capital Ventures does business oversees as well as in Hawai'i.
