LIHU'E
Reminder: Permits are needed to buy fireworks

Advertiser Staff

Officials with the Kaua'i Fire Department are reminding residents and visitors that permits are required to set off firecrackers on New Year's Eve.

Applications are available at the fire department's headquarters, which are located at the Lihu'e Civic Center, Mo'ikeha Building, Suite 295, a fire department news release said. The office is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The cost of a fireworks permit is $25, and it can be used to purchase up to 5,000 non-aerial individual firecracker units, the release said.

Only licensed professionals with proper permits are authorized to ignite aerial fireworks.

There is no limit on the number of permits an individual can obtain to buy firecrackers; however, applicants must be at least 18 years old to be issued a permit, it said.

For more information, call the Fire Prevention Bureau at 241-6511.
