Waikiki 21st on party spots list

Waikiki was named the 21st best New Year's Eve party spot in the United States in a survey conducted by travel Web site Priceline.

The Las Vegas Strip was rated the No. 1 spot, followed by five locations in the New York area.

Priceline.com's list of top U.S. destinations comes from a sampling of hotel room booking requests made by consumers on www.priceline.com.


PENHALL ACQUIRES CONCRETE CORING

Concrete Coring Company of Hawaii Inc. has agreed to sell its assets to California-based Penhall Co.

Terms of the sale, which has yet to be finalized, were not disclosed.

Penhall officials said the company will focus on continued growth in the Hawai'i market "and that retention of all employees will be a key component to continued success."

Concrete Coring Co. president John Neff will stay on after the transaction, which is expected to close in March.

Penhall describes itself on its Web site as "the largest provider of concrete cutting, breaking, excavation and highway grinding services in the United States."


6 FINED FOR SELLING LIQUOR TO MINORS

The Honolulu Liquor Commission last week fined Dixie Grill BBQ & Crab Shack, P.F. Chang's China Bistro, The Old Spaghetti Factory, The Chart House, Roy's Ko Olina and Genki Sushi $1,000 each for selling liquor to minors.

The commission also fined Cirque Hawaii $1,250 for various rule violations.

In its weekly meeting, the commission also postponed:

  • The penalty phase for adjudications against Club Golden Gate for fondling, employee consumption of liquor and other alleged rules violations.

  • The adjudications against Tiare's Sports Bar & Grill and Kailua Bowling Inc. for allegedly selling liquor to a minor.

  • The hearing about Wahoo's Fish Taco and Futaba Restaurant and Catering for violations of selling liquor to a minor.


    HONOLUA STORE DELI REOPENS

    Kapalua Resort said the recently renovated Honolua Store Deli has reopened.

    The Honolua Store Deli's new chef, Romeo Arruiza, has expanded the breakfast and lunch menus, Kapalua Resort said in a news release.

    Highlights of the Honolua Store Deli's menu include Moloka'i sweet bread French toast, Honolua's famous burger and tempura mahi wrap. The new menu also features a variety of made-to-order omelettes, plate lunches, sandwiches, wraps, salads and specialty pizzas. Additionally, the deli offers a "create-your-own salad" bar.


    BILL OF RIGHTS AIDS SMALL BUSINESSES

    Hawai'i's small businesses have a new resource to help them navigate the state's regulatory process.

    The Small Business Regulatory Review Board, an advocate for small businesses, has published the "Small Business Bill of Rights" brochure.

    The document covers 18 existing state statutes and several "core tenants" that apply to small businesses.
