Leaders come together to enhance town by 2010

Environmental, cultural and political leaders have formed a group to discuss and find ways to enhance Kailua by 2010.
The Kailua 10X10 Committee will work on 10 projects that promote cultural awareness, unity in the community and overall beautification, including creating a gathering place and a site for Hawaiian culture to flourish, landscaping Kailua and Ku'ulei roads, installing cultural and historic markers, curbing graffiti, developing a recreational waterway, building a pedestrian/bike bridge over Kawainui Canal at Kailua and Hamakua roads and designing a fitness circuit in a public park.
Members of the committee are Mitch D'Olier, Kane'ohe Ranch; Louie Mahoe, cultural leader; Mapuana de Silva, kumu hula; Ken Sanders, Kailua Chamber of Commerce; Paula Ress, Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle; Ron Sauder, Castle Medical Center; David Earles, Kailua Historical Society; Sen. Fred Hemmings; Reps. Cynthia Thielen and Tommy Waters; City Councilwoman Barbara Marshall; and Rick Bratt and Donna Wong, Kailua Neighborhood Board members.
