ISLE FILE
Murakami to speak at UH-Hilo

Advertiser Staff

Collegiate baseball Hall of Fame coach Les Murakami will be the featured speaker at the Hawai'i-Hilo baseball fund-raising dinner/auction Jan. 21 at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel.

UH-Hilo coach Joey Estrella said the event allows his program to thank Murakami for his support of the fellow UH system team. Estrella played for and was an assistant to Murakami in the 1970s.

The event helps UH-Hilo raise money to augment its operating budget. The new NCAA starting date, pushed to late February, has forced the Vulcans to play more games on the Mainland. In previous seasons, when there was no standard starting date, it was easier for Mainland teams to travel to Hawai'i for games.

The fund raiser includes a buffet dinner with a live and silent auction. The event begins at 5 p.m. with the dinner to start at 6:15 p.m.

Tickets to the dinner are $50 per person. For reservations, call 974-7700.
