The city Ocean Safety & Lifeguard Services Division is seeking to recover a red all-terrain vehicle stolen late Wednesday or early yesterday from the Sunset Beach lifeguard station.

City emergency services spokesman Bryan Cheplic said the ATV — used by lifeguards to respond quickly to emergencies along the beach — was in a double-padlocked storage area under the lifeguard stand and was stolen sometime between 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and early yesterday.

The break-in was discovered at 8:45 a.m. yesterday. The ATV is valued at more than $5,000.

No other equipment was taken from the storage area, Cheplic said.

Anyone with information on the stolen ATV is asked to call police at 911.

MAN CHARGED IN THEFT OF $40,000

A Village Park man was charged yesterday in connection with an 'Aiea home burglary in which $40,000 in cash was taken from a safe.

Chaz Ryan Ramos, 26, is accused of first-degree burglary and detaining stolen property. His bail is $30,000.

Ramos was allegedly carrying $5,000 when he was arrested Tuesday night at a video store at 98-019 Kamehameha Highway in Waimalu, police said.

He was also allegedly carrying a type of bag not sold in Hawai'i that was also taken in the 'Aiea burglary, police said.

WORKER CRITICALLY HURT IN ROOF FALL

A 40-year-old man was critically injured today in a fall at a Pearl City home on Ho'ohulu Street.

The man fell about 40 feet when the roof he was working on gave way, said city emergency services spokesman Bryan Cheplic.

The accident happened at 4:23 p.m.

The man was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition, Cheplic said.

MAN CHARGED IN ATTACK ON OFFICER

A Waipahu man was charged yesterday with attacking a police officer Wednesday after a traffic stop in Wahiawa.

William John Pratt, 34, was charged with first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and also parole-revocation warrants of $10,000 and $5,000. His total bail is $17,000.

The alleged assault occurred at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday at Kilani Avenue and Mango Street. The officer was not seriously injured.

ASSAULT, ROBBERY CHARGES PENDING

Assault and robbery charges were pending against a Hau'ula man arrested yesterday at his Waikulama Street home.

Police said the 27-year-old man caused "substantial bodily injury" to his former girlfriend when he beat her on Aug. 23 after seeing her with another man.

On Sept. 23, the suspect allegedly pushed the woman down and stole cash from her purse when she went to his Hau'ula house to collect her personal belongings.

INMATES' CHILDREN FOCUS OF MEETING

The Children of Incarcerated Parents Task Force is inviting people with an interest in the children of prisoners to a meeting tonight to prepare for the 2008 Legislature.

Lawmakers formed the task force out of concern for the children of incarcerated parents, and to analyze their needs and develop programs to help them. The data show that these children are six to seven times more likely to end up incarcerated than other children.

The meeting will be tonight at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Crossroads Weaver Hall at 1212 University Ave.
