State to permit fishing off Waikiki

For the next year, fishing will be permitted between the 'ewa side of the Waikiki War Memorial Natatorium and the Diamond Head Lighthouse from the highwater mark to 50 yards out to sea, said the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.
The area is a popular fishing spot. Permitted fishing methods include pole-and-line, throw net, spear (during daylight hours only) and hand harvest.
Fishing is not permitted in the Waikiki Marine Life Conservation District, an area between the 'ewa edge of the Natatorium and the 'ewa end of the Kapahulu groin.
KEKAHA RECYCLING CENTER CLOSED
The Kekaha HI-5¢ bottle redemption center at the Kekaha Landfill on Kaua'i is closed because of unsafe, muddy conditions, but will reopen Wednesday, weather permitting.
Normal operating hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The center at the Kaloa fire station will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.

UH COLLEGES OFFER CAREER SITE, KIOSKS
The University of Hawai'i Community Colleges system has launched its new Career Connections Web site and touchscreen kiosks designed to help people define their career goals and options.
Career Connections is free to the public and available at stand-alone kiosks at the community college campuses statewide or online at careerconnections .hawaii.edu.
Users can explore more than 1,000 career options, interests and skills-based assessments.
The system was designed by a team at UH community colleges. The first module was released in 2006, earning the University of Hawai'i the 2006 Team Excellence Award of Merit and the 2006 Governor's Award for Distinguished State Service.
