'Swords finish 4-0 in Hilo

Evelyn Bluthenthal had 13 kills and Trina Kauliakamoa 10 as Chaminade defeated Cal State Monterey Bay, 30-24, 30-22, 30-23, yesterday to finish unbeaten at the Hawaiian Style Classic in Hilo.
Krista Catian had 22 digs and Samantha Miller 17 for the Silverswords, who went 4-0 in the women's volleyball tournament. Courtney Taubert led Cal State Monterey Bay (0-4) with 14 kills.
Earlier in the day, Miller had 21 kills, Kauliakamoa added 20 and Catian chipped in 33 digs as Chaminade defeated Rollins College (Fla.), 30-12, 30-26, 25-30, 30-27. Piper Young had 16 kills for Rollins (1-3).

Earlier, Pinheiro had 17 kills and Laura Rodriguez added 17 digs as Hawai'i-Hilo defeated Texas Woman's University, 30-21, 30-26, 28-30, 30-15. Katie King led Texas Woman's (2-2) with 14 kills.
Earlier, Malia Pires had 24 kills, Antje Buskies added 19 and Charly Sampaga contributed 28 digs as HPU defeated Cal State Monterey Bay, 30-24, 26-30, 25-30, 30-27, 15-10. Courtney Taubert led CSUMB with 20 kills.
BYUH SPLITS PAIR
Jenna Young had 28 kills and 18 digs as host Cal Poly Pomona beat 19th-ranked Brigham Young-Hawai'i, 25-30, 30-23, 30-18, 27-30, 15-6, last night at the Cal State Los Angeles/Cal Poly Pomona Tournament in Los Angeles.
Noelle Filimoeatu led the Seasiders (2-2) with 17 kills and 26 digs.
Also, Faylynn Merrick had 21 kills and Filimoeatu added 18 kills and 24 digs as BYUH beat California University of Pennsylvania, 21-30, 32-30, 30-23, 30-23.

WONG'S TEAM FALLS
Punahou alum Scott Wong and partner Aaron Wachtfogel outplayed the best men's team on the AVP Crocs Tour yesterday, but failed to convert on too many scoring opportunities in the final of the Brooklyn Open.
Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers went on to post a 23-21, 24-22 victory for their ninth title this season.
Wachtfogel and Wong committed 11 errors to Dalhausser and Rogers' seven and had nine service errors to their opponent's two.

SILVERSWORDS SHUT OUT
Bryant University outshot Chaminade 29-2 and beat the host Silverswords, 3-0, yesterday in a non-conference men's match at the Saint Louis School field.
Erik Lekstrom, Ryan Aspinall and Sean Kaukas scored for the visitors from Rhode Island, who improved to 2-0.
Darren Smith had 11 saves for Chaminade (0-1).
