Catherine Tanaka, chief operations officer since the first of the year of the 240-bed Hawaii Medical Center East in Liliha — formerly St. Francis Medical Center-Liliha — has been promoted to chief operations officer of both that facility and the 102-bed Hawaii Medical Center West in 'Ewa. Prior to her current position with HMC, the veteran of healthcare administration and nursing spent more than 20 years with St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawai'i. Hawaii Medical Center is Hawai'i's only physician-owned and for-profit hospital.
Mark A. Stotts has been named general manager of the newest Auntie Pasto's location, in Queen Ka'ahumanu Shopping Center on Maui. The Kahului location is in addition to existing locations in Kunia and Honolulu. Stotts is a veteran of the food and beverage industry, including stints at Kincaid's Fish, Chop & Steak House in Honolulu, as well as on Guam.
The state Office of Hawaiian Affairs has added several new staff positions, bringing its workforce to 161 positions:
Rodney Saito, named accounting manager, Treasury and Other Services Office, is a veteran of several fiscal positions with Warner Brothers Entertainment Inc. in Burbank, Calif.
Former Honolulu Star-Bulletin reporter Crystal Kua has been named director of communications in OHA's Public Information Office.
Hawley Alamodin, finance and operations officer, Native Hawaiian Revolving Loan Fund; former vice president of Bystricky & Co. CPAs Inc. in Cleveland.
Robert Crowell, technical assistance specialist, Native Hawaiian Revolving Loan Fund; most recently with the state Department of Education.
Maria Evans, records manager; Office of Board Services, previously librarian with the law firm of Willkie Farr & Gallagher and the National Gallery of Art, both in Washington, D.C.
Jason Jeremiah, preservation policy advocate, Native Rights, Land and Culture; previously with the state Historic Preservation Division and the Land Assets Division of The Kamehameha Schools.
Rena Mae Reid, human services specialist; Health, Human Services and Housing; previously, resident manager with Child & Family Service.
Michelle Takai, associate staff attorney; Legal Services; recently in private law practice, and former city deputy prosecuting attorney.
The Better Business Bureau of Hawai'i has announced the election of its 2007-2008 executive board: chairman: Harry Byerly, associate vice president and director, Center for Graduate and Adult Services, Hawai'i Pacific University; first vice chair: Wayne Kirihara, senior vice president of marketing, Central Pacific Bank; second vice chair: Hoyt Zia, senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, Hawaiian Airlines; secretary: Philip Sammer, 'Ilima Hotel; treasurer: Thomas Dixon, First Hawaiian Bank; and immediate past chair: Fred Badua, Servco Pacific Inc. Serving their initial terms are Jerry Raukhorst of Catholic Charities; Bobby Senaha, of Hawai'i Business News; Rachel Shimamoto of Travel Ways; and Lilia Yu-Lum of Royal State National Insurance Co. Ltd.
Dee Oswald, a veteran of project management and leadership experience with Kiewit Building Group, has been named project executive for the firm's Hawai'i office. Most recently, Oswald was a project manager in the firm's Omaha, Neb., office, responsible for commercial building and renovation projects. Oswald also has been a project engineer, with a degree in construction management.
MADELEINE NOA — formerly sales and marketing director for the luxury vintage yacht Vida Mia — has been named director of sales and marketing for the local 8,000-worldwide-member vacation time-share firm Royal Aloha Vacation Club. Noa played a major role in the opening of the 7,000-square-foot Abhasa Waikiki Spa at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, and served as concierge at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Royal Aloha, since its founding 30 years ago in Hawai'i, maintains vacation properties in Waikiki, Maui, and Kailua, Kona, locally, as well as locations in Nevada, Arizona, Missouri, Oregon, Mexico and Spain.
